The Notebook

Reviewed on Jun 03 2008

Once in a while a film comes along that makes you wonder why all films can't be made as good. This is a love story of love stories and stars James Garner and Gena Rowlands. Without giving away the theme, it traces the love of a young couple (played by Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) through several decades–during war and peace, separation and reunion, sickness and loyalty. Outside The Law

2 hours, 18 minutes

This epic film should have been named something else, other than Outside the Law (which sounds like a Steven Segal movie) which I bet is why a lot of people don't give it a second look. But it turns out it's the story about Algerian independence and people's struggle to obtain it from France. Three Muslim brothers born in Algeria grow up suffering at the hands of the French by having their land taken from them, their father murdered, and their mother having to ...

The Overture

This beautiful film, about a master musician who plays the wooden harp, is captivating visually, aesthetically, and philosophically. Every musician needs to see this superb film on the making of a true musician. The film also points toward the fact that great musicians are called by God to be a musician and need to be ever-aware of falling to their own pride and greed and desire for fame. Filmed in Thailand. Anuchit Saphanphong, Adul Dulyarat, Arratee Tanmahapran, Narongit Tosa-nga, ...
