This is a superbly well-done film with great cinematography, wardrobe, class, dance, and romance between two couples—one in the 1930s and one in the modern era. It's the story of King Edward who fell in love with a commoner and abdicated his throne as King of England to be with her because of the pressure of his family, not so much the English people (for they loved Edward). The film shifts back and forth between the 1930s (the time of Edward) and the modern era (the time of a female romanticist who collects everything she can from Edward and his wife's collection they left when they died). The modern woman is married to an abusive husband, which also parallels the life of the wife of King Edward in her early years. Both women had to leave their husbands. The modern woman also falls in love with a man who is very romantic, just like Edward. Madonna shows that she can not only dance and sing and act, but she's a great director. I would watch the bonus features, which are about 15 minutes, with Madonna telling how she made the movie. This should be up for an Academy Award this year; James D'Arcy, Andrea Riseborough, Abbie Cornish, Oscar Isaac.
