In 1932 backwoods Canada a man smuggles whiskey and deals with a supernatural character. A good film of down-home characters, despite the scenes when men are killed smuggling whiskey. Good triumphs over evil and a man's sordid past manifests present evils. Native American Gary Farmer plays his usual charming self, as a big man with a huge heart—a very lovable screen presence. Genevieve Bujold is an actresses' actress and is quite believable as a shamaness. Kris Kristofferson is quite comfortable playing a rugged character who has gone a little crazed. Violence.
