This was the great World War II battle that took hundreds of thousands of lives. This particular film deals mostly with a taking of a building, held by 5 Russian men, by the Nazis. One of the Russian men falls in love with a woman hiding in the building, who is also Russian, and she becomes pregnant by him. The man dies, and the woman and child go on to live somewhat of a normal life. A German officer falls in love with another Russian girl, who in turn loves him back, and her love for him causes her murder by a Russian soldier. The film has excellent battle scenes and epic refugee scenes. The film is partially subtitled when the Germans speak, but when the Russians speak it's dubbed over in English. I couldn't figure that one out. Probably they couldn't find a German translator. The English that came out of the Russian's mouths sounded pretty damn stupid, and almost ruined the movie. I hope one day they re-dub it or just let them speak in Russian and subtitle it in English, like they did with the German parts. Go figure! But the film is well worth watching; Mariya Smolnikova, Yanina Studilina.
