Both actresses should get some kind of an award for their performances in this period piece from the 1930s to 1970s. Based on a true story the Bouvier family, relatives of Jackie Bouvier Kennedy, and the extraordinary relationship between mother and daughter and their flamboyant lives in high society as well as experiencing near poverty, the deterioration of their finances and the deterioration of their lives. The mother (Jessica Lange) was a singer, and the daughter had ambitions to dance and act and sing also, but interpersonal relationships between mother and daughter, and the wrong men, destroyed her career ambitions and she did not realize any recognition until she was much older and her had mother passed away.
