The Legend of 1900

Reviewed on May 07 2008

The Legend of 1900, written by Allessandro Barrico and Giuseppe Tornatore (who also directed the film) and starring Tim Roth and Pruit Taylor Vince, was a most magnificent film–a sleeper which should have gotten the Academy Award the year it was made.  I'll try not to give too much of the plot away, just enough to get the idea of the film–then you can run down to store and get it.  It was about a boy born on a steamer who grows up on the boat ...

Kundun

Reviewed on May 05 2008

Kundun shows the respect that a community of believers in reincarnation have for a wise and ancient soul.  However, we feel that the religion itself is an evolutionary religion that does not take into consideration recent revelation.  It has a misunderstanding of reincarnation; the transmigration of the soul has to do with interuniversal ascension and is properly called repersonalization–a term which is found and defined in the book, The Cosmic ...

Once in a while a film comes along that gives you hope in humanity and in the ability of the film industry to really say something meaningful. George Gallo (Director/Writer) uses the voice of an experienced older man, who is a master artist, to express his feelings to a young artist about his views of life and art, which equals the wisdom of an experienced sage. With lines like, "True art is beautiful," "True art really says something," and "An atheist can't paint true beauty," the movie is ...

The Lake House

This film proves that Hollywood can make a great film without unnecessary sex and violence.  It is a film that deals with soul-mates (Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock) finding each other against all odds, with a little help from the supernatural powers that are always there overlooking humankind. The film never shows the helpers behind the scenes, but that's how I saw it.

When two people belong with each other, only the mistake of one or both of them can keep them from ...

The Mists of Avalon

(We recommend this mini-series be viewed by 18 and over because of sexual content and innuendoes.)

The Mists of Avalon, a four-hour miniseries which aired on TV July 15th and 16th and was based on the book by Marion Zimmer Bradley, was a mystical experience to the days of King Arthur and the old religion.  This particular version, brought in the very true elements of the Goddess and Gaia–Mother Earth.  I thought, however, that King Arthur and ...

Adam's Apples

This dark comedy is very well made and directed. It has many interesting characters who keep you not only interested but not, by any means, ever bored. You really don't know what to expect next. At the same time, it teaches a lot about good and evil, and does it with a lot of insight and plain cleverness. It does have violence, but not slow-motion American style. The film actually has a good ending! Ulrich Thomsen, Nicolas Bro, Paprika Steen.
